Flagler Palm Coast standout Mardy Gilyard has reportedly received a contract from an NFL team to get back to work, sources confirmed Friday morning.
While the exact team hasn’t been released, the source confirmed via text message that “there are some things under way.” The team is reportedly in the NFC East.
Gilyard, who missed all of the 2011 regular season, was a fourth-round pick by the St. Louis Rams in the 2010 draft. He caught six passes in 11 games with the Rams before being released.
Gilyard was picked up by the New York Jets shortly after being released by the Rams. But he was waived 24 hours later by the Jets.
However, after missing an entire season, it appears Gilyard will get back to work. Gilyard and the Philadelphia Eagles have previously talked.
On his Twitter page Thursday, Gilyard tweeted at Brent Celek, tight end for the Eagles.
Gilyard also said on his Twitter page that Eagles QB Michael Vick is his favorite quarterback in the league.
“Whatever role I need to play, I’m willing to play; I’m willing to do. ... I’m just grateful the good Lord gave me football back," Gilyard wrote Thursday on Twitter.
