The city of Flagler Beach will host a New Year’s block party for its free monthly First Friday event 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, in Veterans Park. Activities will also be located along Central Avenue, behind City Hall.

Beach 92.7 FM will be spinning tunes throughout the evening suitable for the whole family. The “Great American Race,” the annual Pinewood Derby event, will return for 2012. Car kits are free at city hall. Kids will also be able to make New Year’s Resolution Time Capsules in the Commission Chambers.

Vendors will be on hand to share their products and services, and the food court area will be set up to offer a variety of your favorite foods and beverages.

Entertainment sponsors for the event are Cline Construction, Triplett Title, Accu-Temp Heating and Air Conditioning, and Toes in the Sand Beach Footwear. The featured charity is Alzheimer’s Resource Council of Flagler County.

Other events this weekend are:
Christmas Tree Recycling — 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Fuel Depot, 22 Utility Drive. Remove all decorations, lights and ornaments prior to drop-off. You may also drop-off old Christmas lights, styrofoam and gift wrap. Receive a free 3-gallon evergreen tree when you recycle your own. Co-sponsored by Girl Scout troops 966, 987 and 1307. Library Birthday Party — 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Flagler County Public Library, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway N.W. Captain Nick, composer and “Trop-Rock” music artist, will perform. Hosted by The Friends of the Library of Flagler County, Inc. There will be cake and refreshments. Call 446-6763.

Amateur Radio Relay League Children's Day — 12-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Herschel King Park, 1000 Grady Prather Jr. Cove. Children will have a chance to talk to different amateur radio operators as well as get on the air and talk to different stations. All ages welcome. Auditions for ‘Over the River and Through the Woods’ — 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, and Monday, Jan. 9, at the Flagler Playhouse, 301 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell.
