Palm Coast couple Joel and Kathy Davisson will make their second national television appearance 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, on “The Balancing Act,” on Lifetime Television.

The Davissons have written two books, “The Man of Her Dreams/The Woman of His!” in 2004, which was No. 6 on the Amazon.com best seller list, and “Livin’ it and Lovin’ it!” in 2006. They are currently working on their third book, “Our Marriage is our Happy Place.”

When their daughter, Shekinah, died in 2008 at the age of 13, the Davissons continued to strive to live the life of a happy marriage that they had been teaching for many years.

“We discovered the reality that if your marriage is happy, it does not matter what comes your way, good or bad; life can continue to be full, rich, full of joy and happiness,” Joel Davisson said. “Our marriage is our happy place. Yes, we have our moments of tears. There have been many. But after that moment passes, we pick up and enjoy our life of ‘Livin' it and Lovin' it’ yet again.”

Here is some marriage advice from Joel and Kathy Davisson:
A great husband will listen to his wife's heart. When your wife shares her hopes, dreams, frustrations, insecurities and fears, your job is to listen. Try to understand what she is saying. Don't debate, change subjects or go into defensive mode.

Simply listen to her words and try to hear the heart behind them. If all else fails, simply say, "I can understand how you would feel that way. Thank you for telling me how you feel. That helps me to understand your heart better."

What is a wife's part to play?

For your husband to hear your heart, you will need to speak to him. You will have to share your heart. Sometimes this is scary.

Perhaps you have attempted to speak to him in the past. Maybe he discounted, debated or completely ignored your words. Ask him to read the preceding paragraph and then try again.
