Almost 400 people attended the third-annual Flagler Churches Together in Prayer and Song held Saturday, Jan. 21, at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, in Flagler Beach.

The concert, which featured 11 choirs and soloists from nine area churches singing 27 songs, was the culmination of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Flagler County.

A freewill collection raised $1,200 for Family Promise of Flagler County, a coalition of a dozen churches working together to get families with children out of homelessness and into self-sufficiency.

In his opening remarks, Chau Phan, event organizer said, "In Flagler County, we have established a tradition, yes a young but growing tradition, of having Christians of many denominations coming together to sing praise to God, feeling joyful and at ease with one another, and ready to join with one another."

Phan quoted the Lutheran Church’s motto, to do God’s work with our hands, and said, "We are about to expand our cooperative works in a new enterprise called Family Promise of Flagler County, because worship without sacrifice is just an empty gesture."
