In the fall, Matanzas High School will have different coaches for volleyball, girls basketball and boys bowling, Athletics Director Ken Seybold announced Friday.

Julie Menendez will take over volleyball; Mike Guastella will be the new girls basketball coach; and Rob Roe will take over the boys bowling team.

“Coach Menendez was a natural fit for us — she is very familiar with the girls and has been working to establish a competitive club-level program in Flagler County,” Seybold said.

Menendez replaces Roe, who has taken over the boys bowling program from Frank Novak. Novak retired last year after more than 30 years in education.

“Coach Roe is focused on winning us a district championship,” Seybold said. “Our bowling team has qualified for the district semifinals the last two years, so it will be exciting to see this program continue to improve.”

Guastella takes over the girls basketball program from Brian Morris. Guastella previously was the boys basketball coach at Calvary Christian High School.

“Coach Guastella is a graduate of Atlantic High School and very familiar with area programs,” Seybold said. “(He) will be a great teacher who brings a great level of success with him.”
