+ Palm Coast renovates City Marketplace offices
The city of Palm Coast has completed renovations to its office space, a project which will cost about $11,500 and be paid for, according to City Manager Jim Landon, with operational and efficiency savings.
“When considering the extension of our lease in City Marketplace, we are moving forward with changes to the main suite for our offices,” Landon wrote to the Palm Coast City Council recently.
Using the appearance of the Business Assistance Center next door as its model, Palm Coast’s new entry offices, or “BAC II,” include new paint, a new waiting area and the functions of the cashier and receptionist will be combined to provide two customer-service representatives at all times. Building permits and other related functions will be in the back of the office, with staff sitting at desks to provide one-on-one service.
Construction on the project began in mid-June.
+ Flagler paramedic team wins third international award in four years
For the third year straight, Flagler County’s Team U.S.A., a competition paramedic team, won top honors at Rallye Rejviz in the Czech Republic.
Flagler’s team competed against teams from all over Europe, Canada and another team from Miami-Dade in the three-day event. The first-place victory marked the team’s third in four years. In 2010, the team placed second.
“Each year they make it more challenging,” team leader Dennis Kline said. “Not only are they challenging our medical skills but also testing us to see how we react under tiring and difficult conditions.”
Last year the team also took first place in a National Competition in Nebraska.
This year’s team consisted of Kline, William Kerek, Mike Pius and John Moskowitz. Each competition the team enters presents new situations that assist in members’ day-to-day paramedic duties.
“Myself, Caryn Prather and Mike Pius are going back next year to work on a scenario for part of the competition and judge the events,” he added. A new Flagler team will also enter the competition next year.
