Marleigh Mlinac, of Palm Coast, has been placed on the Dean’s List at Jacksonville University for recognition of superior scholastic achievement and maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Mlinac will be a senior at Jacksonville in the fall of 2012, where she is on the women’s soccer team. She is a 2009 graduate of Matanzas High School, where she was the Scholar Athlete of the Year. Mlinac was the first student from Matanzas to be recruited to a Division I college for sports.

Mlinac was also recently awarded a scholarship from the PGA Tour/Players Championship for Billy Walker for a student making a difference in their community.

Her volunteer work includes Relay for Life, Fishing With Friends for people with autism and Downs Syndrome, working soccer camps for children with disabilities for the Downs Syndrome of Jacksonville organization and assisting with other soccer camps.

In June 2011, Mlinac underwent reconstructive surgery for a blown ACL. After receiving an Achilles tendon from a donor, she underwent months of rehabilitation and physical therapy. She marked her one year anniversary since her surgery by participating in the Never Quit Never 5K run in Jacksonville Beach on June 9.
