The unidentified man who washed ashore late Friday night in Flagler Beach likely was killed by a gunshot, Flagler Beach Police Chief Dan Cody said June 14.

The white man, likely between 50 or 60 years old, is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds, Cody said. He had brown eyes and salt-and-pepper hair.

“It appears to be a homicide by a gunshot and was possibly dumped by a vessel at sea,” Cody said.

The man was found around 11 p.m. Friday, about 100 yards north of North 13th Street, in Flagler Beach.

The Flagler Beach Police Department released a sketch of the man this week, but Cody said Thursday there are no updates on the identification of the man nor the homicide.

The man had no clothing or jewelry, but officials said dental records might be helpful in identifying him.

When the man was first found, Kenneth Moore, of the St. Johns County Medical Examiner’s Office, suggested a small-caliber gunshot was the cause of death the night the body was found, according to the police report. The Medical Examiner’s report later confirmed the homicide via gunshot wound.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Flagler Beach Police Department at 386-517-2023.
