The Kiwanis Club of Flagler Palm Coast and Bright House Networks represented Flagler County in a recent state ceremony honoring more than 70 organizations for being strong supporters of their local education system.
Hosted by the Florida Department of Education, more than 70 businesses and nonprofits were recognized for their partnerships with education, at the 2012 Commissioner’s Business Recognition Awards ceremony.
Florida Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson and members of the Foundation led the ceremony, as. part of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents and the Florida School Boards Association Joint Conference, in Tampa.
The first Flagler company to be highlighted, Bright House Networks was named a Flagler County Education Foundation “Partner in Education,” in recognition of its annual support of college scholarships, teacher grants and schools supplies for children in need.
Each year, Bright House also sponsors the Tommy Tant Jr. Surf Contest and FCEF Golf Classic.
Also spotlighted was the Kiwanis Club of Flagler Palm Coast, a club of 44 members which ranks in the top 4% of the 11,000 Kiwanis clubs worldwide for the amount of money it returns to its community annually.
Flagler County students benefit from Kiwanis Club projects that encourage children to read, engage students in community service projects, reward students for leadership and scholastic achievement, according to Director of Student Services Katrina Townsend.
“Kiwanis has a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children each year,” she said. “We’re fortunate to have the men and women in bright orange blazers in our community.”
