Baseball, softball, America

After what seemed like a week of rainy, windy, gloomy and nap-taking weather, the sun peaked through the clouds Wednesday evening.

I was at the Indian Trails Sports Complex (where I’ve spent quite a bit of time lately) to watch some Little League All-Stars action.

Palm Coast’s minors softball team was playing the Orange City All-Stars. Unfortunately, Palm Coast lost, 25-0.

But on the other three fields, the other Palm Coast All-Stars were practicing.

The sounds of coaches instructing their young players; the balls clanking off the bats; the slap of the ball hitting the glove.

It’s obvious: Summer is upon us.

And what better way to get it started than with baseball and celebrating America’s independence?

I often say there is no better time than the summer — when the sun is shining bright well into late evening; when Little League, baseball and softball are in full-swing.

Over the next week or so, Palm Coast Little League All-Stars will be competing at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, at Indian Trails Sports Complex, Doug Berryhill’s Majors All-Stars play in their first game of the postseason.

Then 7 p.m. July 9, Dave Febus’ Juniors All-Stars team begins its quest to defend the district title.

Although the humidity and the heat can get old, summer is a great time.

I hope you all have a fun and safe Fourth of July holiday next week.
