The Wolverines were able to erase a two-goal deficit twice in the Flagler Roller Hockey League finals, beating the Bulldogs, 5-4, to claim the title.
The Wolverines, who beat the Fighting Irish, 5-3, in the semifinals, jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period behind a Mike Breckwoldt goal. However, the Bulldogs rallied to take a 2-1 lead following back-to-back goals by Cameron Heroux and Josh Wallace.
Dave Mancini scored in the second period, giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Bobby Perham cut the lead to 3-2 after he netted a goal for his Wolverines midway through the second period, but Heroux netted another goal, giving the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead.
But the Wolverines got a powerplay late in the second period and netted two goals to tie the game at 4-4 after two periods of play.
The Wolverines struck early in the third period, taking a 5-4 lead behind a Ryan Gillespie goal. Wolverines goal Andy Johnson stifled a barrage of Bulldogs shots, saving 26 shots to give his team the win.
