Team USA, Flagler County’s world champion paramedic competition team, will be heading back to the Czech Republic this month to defend their title.

Team USA took first place in last year’s competition at the Rallye Rejviz, in the Czech Republic, a grueling three day competition. The team repeated its winning ways in a National Competition in Omaha, Neb., in the fall. Teams from Flagler County took first, third and fourth in the advanced life support competition and second place in the basic life support completion.

Team USA will go to the Czech Republic a couple of days early to train Czech paramedics. Flagler County Paramedic Dennis Kline, who is the competition team leader, said the invitation to train paramedics in the Czech Republic was a special honor. He also said his team is a little nervous about this year’s competition.

“Each year they step it up a little bit. We won last year but it was close,” Kline said.

Team USA raised funds to pay for travel expenses and last weekend the team held a fund raising golf tournament to help pay for more than $8,000 in airfare to compete in the international competition. The team will arrived in Prague May 27, and the three day competition begins June 1.

Individuals who wish to donate to the team should contact Kline at 747-0012.
