A caravan of 165 walkers, runners and bicyclists participated Saturday, May 19, in the 5.5-mile Wounded Warrior Walk organized by the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners.

Flagler County Community Service Director Joe Mayer and Commissioner George Hanns took the lead on the fundraising project.

“We can never do enough for our veterans,” Hanns said.

While funds are still being collected, the event raised in excess of $15,000 to be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit agency that assists returning veterans readjust to civilian life.

Among the donations was $3,500 raised by Suzanne Johnson and the Flagler County tax collector’s office.
