2:43 p.m. -- 1500 Block of Granada Boulevard.. A loss-prevention officer at Walmart observed the defendant take three fishing reels off of a rock and conceal them in his pants. He then watched the defendant pass all store registers without paying for the reels, valued at $222.46, and then exit the store. The officer told police he contacted the defendant outside of the store, identified himself, and told the defendant about the stolen items. The defendant returned to the store with the loss-prevention officer, without incident, and waited for the Ormond Beach Police Department to arrive. The defendant was read his Miranda rights, agreed to answer the police officer’s questions and admitted to stealing the items. According to the police report, due to several prior convictions for theft, the misdemeanor theft charge was increased to felony retail theft. The defendant was transported to Volusia County Branch jail and evidence was collected.
