To be successful in business is to be part of the community, something S.E. Cline Construction has been doing since 1996.
Sam Cline, CEO of the company that bears his name, first came to Flagler County when he was Vice President of ITT Land Development. He began his company as ITT phased theirs out of the area.
“He started with subdivisions, infrastructure, roads, sewer and water and focused mainly on government-type projects,” said Scott Sowers, president of Cline Construction.
According to Sowers, commercial projects are picking up for Cline and others in their industry.
“We are definitely seeing a lot more commercial projects,” Sowers said.
Panera Bread on State Road 100 is the most recently completed of the commercial Cline projects.
Community involvement is also an important aspect of the company. Sam Cline is currently a member of the Flagler Humane Society Board of Directors, Sowers is the vice chair of the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates, and the company has worked with the Teen Center, an investment for the future.
“The youth of the community are the future employees of the company, so if you keep the kids going in the right direction, it helps us all out,” Sowers said.
The company has received many honors and awards in the past 16 years, most recently the 2011- 2012 Flagler County Rotary Service Above Self Award for its contributions to community charities.
Sowers sees industry future on an upswing.
“The influx of commercial work we are starting to see is a positive sign,” he said. “It’s slowly starting to go in the right direction.”
