Summer may be over, but you wouldn’t know it if you were at Flagler Beach on Friday night.

First Friday is the monthly celebration on the first Friday of the month, yet for some neighbors, it was their first time ever attending.

Although the Chili Cookoff was canceled, there was plenty going on, including the U.S. Navy Band’s TGIF seven-piece, which features New Orleans-style music that kept people dancing all night. There was also cardboard castle building.

Denice Ward and her children came out to join the festivities for the first time.

“I lived here for 10 years and have never been to one," Denice said.

The Flagler Volunteer Services' crockpot served pulled-pork sandwiches, which has now turned into a monthly routine. Norm Hartley and his wife, Beverly, have been helping for more than 10 years.
