Flagler Force roller hockey wins tourney
The Flagler Force hockey team, which comprises players mostly from Flagler County, won the ball hockey title Oct. 28, in New Port Richey.
The team is captained by Larry Tanenbaum, who runs the Flagler County Ball Hockey league.
Things didn’t start exactly the way Flagler Force wanted them to, though.
In the preliminary round, the Force lost its first three games. Heading into the playoff on Sunday, the team was the second-to-lowest seed.
Before games began Sunday morning, the team met to discuss communication problems and tactics.
That proved key.
The Force won 2-0 in the semifinal game and then won the championship game, 1-0, on a goal by rookie Zach Ellis late in the third period.
Goalie Matt Wentworth was stellar between the pipes. He was awarded Best Goal for the recreational division.
Carl Litchfield was named team MVP.
