Twelve members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 171, of Palm Coast, recently spent time pressure washing and painting a Woodford Lane home. The Palm Coast home belongs to a resident who is handicapped and restricted to a wheelchair.

The lodge, which was formed this year, consists of retired officers from all over the country, who have settled in Flagler County.

“We aren’t a labor union, so we just want to do something for the community,” said Ron Conklin, secretary of the lodge.

Paint and supplies for the project were donated by Lowe’s, Olympic, Valspar and Sherwin-Williams.

“It was really heartwarming that they were that giving,” Conklin said.

The group will hold a lodge dedication 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in honor of Phillip Cardillo, an officer who was ambushed and murdered in 1972 in New York. Cardillo’s family later settled in Flagler County.

The dedication will be at the Hispanic American Club, 5 Commercial Court, in Palm Coast.
