Paiz nets four goals, leads Lady Pirates past St. Augustine
Matanzas striker Gabbi Paiz continues to find the goal.
Paiz, a junior, bagged four goals Tuesday night in the Lady Pirates’ 8-0 rout of district foe St. Augustine.
Matanzas (5-1, 2-0 District 4-3A) started the game off with two shots clanking off the crossbar.
Shortly after, Paiz got the Lady Pirates on the board after she netted her first goal on an assist from Chastity Vigo.
Paiz converted her second goal a few minutes later and then Stephanie Giminez scored the team’s third goal right before the midway point.
Matanzas came out firing in the second half, tallying five more goals. Goalkeeper Michaela Benvenuto picked up a shutout and also scored a goal on a penalty kick after a Matanzas player was taken down in the box.
Because of the eight-goal advantage, the game ended with about 10 minutes left on the clock.
Benvenuto picked up her fourth shutout of the season and has a 0.66 goals against average.
Through six games, Paiz has 18 goals and eight assists. Freshman Karen Rodriguez has four goals and four assists.
After a week break for the Thanksgiving holiday, Matanzas hosts Orange Park 7:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26.
