FPC runners: ninth at states
The Flagler Palm Coast boys cross-country team placed ninth at the Class 4A state meet Saturday, Nov. 17, in Tallahassee.
Thomas Carroll finished 22nd overall, in 16 minutes, 18 seconds. Brad Walbert (35th, 16:38); Markell Peck (86th, 17:11); Tyrell Roberson (90th, 17:17); Joseph Alter (100th, 17:23); Tyler Dimiro (108th, 17:33) and Dean Rulapaugh (130th, 17:54) rounded out the top seven. FPC averaged 16:57 and scored 277 team points.
Matanzas’ Loder finishes 27th at Class 3A state meet
Hannah Loder finished 27th overall at the Class 3A state meet on Nov. 17, in Tallahassee, finishing in a time of 19 minutes, 25 seconds.
“Hannah went out fairly aggressively at the start, with the mindset that she would be within striking distance of the lead pack,” Matanzas coach James Wolfe said.
Loder finished the first mile in 5:42 and was in 12th place. But the hard, early pace cost her a bit, as she faded to 15th through the two-mile mark before finishing.
Lady Pirates fall to Bartram Trail; Paiz scores No. 19
In a nail-biter, the Matanzas Lady Pirates soccer team lost to Bartram Trail, 4-3, in a District 4-5A matchup on Nov. 15. Bartram went up early 1-0 in the game on a defensive mistake. The Lady Pirates battled back, though, and leveled the score at 1 after forward Gabbi Paiz netted her 19th goal of the season.
Matanzas (5-2, 2-1 District 4-5A) took a 2-1 lead after Karen Rodriguez got on the other end of Stephanie Giminez’s searching ball into the box. Bartram was able to equalize right before halftime and then took a 3-2 lead on a penalty kick early in the second half. But the resilient Lady Pirates tied the game at 3-3 after Giminez finished off a pass from Alyssa Santos.
Bartram was able to score on a breakaway later in the game to take a 4-3 lead.
Last season, Bartam Trail mercy-ruled Matanzas, 8-0. Matanzas continues its schedule 7:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at home against Orange Park.
Walker leads Lady Bulldogs past Pine Ridge in girls hoops
Armani Walker dropped 10 points, and the Flagler Palm Coast girls basketball team defeated Pine Ridge, 53-12, on Friday night.
FPC (2-1) converted three 3-pointers.
Walker led the team in scoring, and also snagged eight rebounds, collected eight assists and had seven thefts. Shanika Gardner added eight points, nine rebounds and two steals.
FPC wrestling ties for first
The Flagler Palm Coast wrestling team tied with University for first place at the Titan City Clash on Saturday, in Orange City.
Jake Kosachiner (120 pounds) and Zach Ford (138 pounds) both finished in first place. Jeremy Urban (106) Jackson Trivett (145) and Justin Boyle (160) all grabbed second place. Alfred Shavers (113) and Collin Larocco (132) both were in third. Rykell Alexander (195) took fourth, and Jonathan Muniz (182) took fifth.
Pirates win Matanzas Duals
For the second year in a row, the Matanzas wrestling team won the Matanzas Duals on Saturday, going 5-0.
Individual champions include Pedro Nieves (132 pounds), Troy Magnuson (138), Marquese Jones (160), Carmine Pronesti (182) and Stephen Mosley (285).
