A new hospice facility is scheduled to break ground next year, but not before about $3 million is raised through community partnerships.

The Young Professionals Group will sponsor an event 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Houligan's in Destination Daytona, to help raise money for the new Halifax Health Hospice facility, planned to break ground in about 12 months.
Since February, Halifax has been conducting a capital drive, with a total of $1.5 million already donated by residents to cover construction costs, according to Fran Davis, executive director.
“We should be settling on a property location very shortly,” Davis said, adding that the preliminary plan is to build on property Halifax Health already owns: a four-acre plot of land next to the not-for-profit’s oncology care center, at 1688 W Granada Blvd.
Planned as the organization’s fourth hospice center (the others are in Port Orange, Edgewater and Orange City) Halifax Health Hospice will be a 12-bed facility.
Davis says the goal is to collect a total of $2.5 million to $3 million before construction begins. Then, building is expected to last about nine months.
“And we’re hoping to have about 75% of funds raised by this December,” she added. “It’s amazing to watch the community come together to support this. ... It’s really just kind of a nice partnership.”
