More than 80 people attended the Palm Coast Rotary Club’s Dinner with Barbra Wednesday, Oct. 3, held at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The fundraiser for the Flagler Safe Sleep Infant Mortality Prevention Program raised enough money to buy 14 cribs for Flagler County families as an effort to prevent co-sleeping.

According to Patrick Johnson, of the Flagler Department of Health, Flagler County has experienced an increase in infant mortality for the first time in many years.

Since mid-2010, there have been six infant deaths in Flagler, three of those being caused by co-sleeping, an unsafe sleeping condition, said Johnson, who is also a Rotary Club member.

“With something as little as a crib, we can prevent deaths,” said Marjorie Marcus, fundraising chair of the Palm Coast Rotary.

The Palm Coast Rotary meets 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday, at the Hilton Garden Inn.
