No more tax money to schools
Dear Editor,
I was disappointed in the Thursday, Sept. 27, one-sided article printed in the Ormond Beach Observer, titled “School: Tax will save 250 jobs.” One of the largest problems in the United States is a teachers union that protects incompetent teachers while failing to educate our children. Every year, it is the same story — more money will solve the problem. To date, the results have gotten worse and not improved.
(The one-mill referendum will only fuel) fantasies and a wish list of the teachers union’s.

Hand Avenue: Don't forget the food banks
Dear Editor,
We run a very busy food bank called the Jewish Federation's Jerry Doliner Food Bank, and we have been impacted by the closing of Hand Avenue.
When a client calls for food, we tell them how to get to our place, and we have been extremely busy. On an average, we see 40 families daily, regardless of race or religion. We give food according to the size of the family.
On the other hand, the people who want to make donations have become scarce because they don't know how to get here. Last month, we spent over $21,000 on food and if we don't receive more donations, we won't be able to sustain the help we give to the economically disadvantaged people in our community.
Folks can come in on Fleming — which is one block south of Hand Avenue — and there is a sign on Andalusia saying food bank open. If people would like to make cash donations, our address if 470 Andalusia Avenue, Ormond Beach, Fl 32174. One-hundred percent of all donations purchases food for our food bank. Not too many nonprofit 510c3 organizations can say this.
As for me personally, I recently moved to Breakaway Trails and we now can't use Hand Avenue which causes us to be on the road an extra 10 minutes. This project is necessary and we appreciate the cooperation of the city of Ormond Beach.

Dear Editor,
I just finished reading Mike Cavaliere’s commentary in the Ormond Beach Observer, "It's scary out there. Never leave." I enjoy his humorous writing style and actually look for his column first when I open the paper. Keep it up!
A truly local paper is a good idea. It would be also great to have a section with upcoming events in Ormond, profiling of local performing arts/fine arts events, and new businesses opening in town.
By the way, this is the first time I’ve ever written to a newspaper.
