FPC freshmen/sophomore runners shine at 5-Star meet
For the first time since 2005, the Flagler Palm Coast boys cross-country team won the freshman/sophomore 5-Star Conference meet Wednesday, at Spruce Creek.
The boys team scored 29 points (the lower, the better), 27 points ahead of second-place Seabreeze.
Markell Peck led the way, finishing second overall in 18 minutes, 15 seconds. Following Peck were Tyler Dinero (4th, 18:41), Chase Rogers (6th, 18:57), Kadeem Wynn (7th, 19:26) and Josh Williams (10th, 19:36).
The girls team also had a strong showing, placing second — tying the best finish in school history with the 2003 and 2009 teams. The girls scored 62 points, just five points behind first-place Spruce Creek.
The girls team was led by Josie Davis, who finished fifth overall in 21:41. Devonne Friday (6th, 21:50), Darien Halliday (11th, 22:21), Sophia Clark (14th, 22:36) and Brittany Marino (29th, 24:55) rounded out the top five.
Last season, the boys team finished fourth, and the girls team finished fifth.
FPC traveled to Bartram Trail on Saturday.
Bulldogs bowling falls to University
The Flagler Palm Coast bowling teams lost to University on Wednesday.
The boys team lost 7-0. D’John James bowled a team-high 230 in Game 1. Jonathan Tamayo bowled a 226 in Game 3. The Bulldogs (3-9) lost the match in overall pins, 2,446-1,963.
The girls team lost 5-2. Chelsea Blaha bowled a team-high 236 in Game 1. Natalie Nazario bowled a 178 also in Game 1. The Lady Bulldogs (6-6) lost the match in overall pins, 2,113-1,938.
Matanzas swimming splits meet with DeLand
The Matanzas Lady Pirates swimming team defeated DeLand, 155-130, on Tuesdsay. Meanwhile, the boys team lost to DeLand, 191-88.
On the girls side, the girls 200-yard medley relay team took first place, finishing in 2 minutes, 16 seconds. The team includes Carley Stinchcomb, Cheyenna Espinoza, Madison O’Keefe and Emily Petkovsek.
Petkovsek also took first place in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
Kylie Allen took first place in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 2:14.28, and first place in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:58.87.
Stinchcomb took first place in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.
The girls 200-yard freestyle relay also took first place.
On the boys side, Jacob Purvis took first place in the 100-yard free, finishing in 1:02.50 minutes. Brian Barth finished first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.40. Evan Johnson took third place in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:21.94.
FPC baseball to host 5K Zombie run
The Flagler Palm Coast High School baseball team will host a 5K zombie run as a fundraiser 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Waterfront Park, off Colbert Lane. Cost is $25. For more information, contact Debbie Breeding at [email protected].
