New Smyrna Beach surfer Josh Nicastro pulled out all the stops Sunday, Oct. 14, winning the Men’s Pro division of the third event in the Flagler Surf Series, held south of the Flagler Beach Pier.
Nicastro also won the second event in the same division, making him the two-time reigning champion.
The series, which held its first event in April, was started by local pro bodyboarder Dan Worley, with hopes of bringing a low-maintenance contest to Flagler Beach.
The contest also featured a food drive put on by Miss Flagler County Haley Watson, Miss Jr. Flagler County Emily Palisoc and Little Miss Flagler County Hannah Blevins. Approximately 200 items were collected at the contest for the drive.
“It was really cool to have the opportunity for people to bring donations and have it coincide with the surf series,” Watson said. “It’s just another example of how amazing our community is.”
The food drive will take place until Nov. 11. Items can be dropped off at Z Wave Surf Shop, 400 S. Oceanshore Blvd., or Sully’s Surf Shop, 211 S. Third St., both in Flagler Beach.
