Two motorcyclists were injured this weekend in two separate motorcycle crashes on Flagler County roads, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Cecil Johns, 58, of Hawthorne, was listed in critical condition Saturday after he crashed into the passenger’s side door of a car along Old Dixie Highway and County Road 335.
Christina Brennan, 20, of Palm Coast, was traveling eastbound on Old Dixie Highway around 11:09 a.m., with a 2-year-old also in the car.
Preliminary investigations show that Brennan slowed down and proceeded to turn left to enter a residential driveway, according to a report.
Brennan’s turn occurred directly in front of Johns. Then, Johns, who was wearing a helmet, struck the passenger’s side and ejected over the top of Brennan’s car.
Johns landed within the westbound lane of Old Dixie Highway, sustaining critical injuries. Johns was flown via FireFlight to Halifax Hospital, in Daytona.
Brennan and the 2-year-old passenger both suffered minor injuries, according to the report.
Old Dixie Highway was closed for approximately one hour during the investigation, and Brennan was cited by FHP for a left turn in front of approaching traffic, which requires a mandatory court appearance.
Out-of-town motorcyclist in critical condition after crash
Alan Taylor, 53, of Newport Beach, Calif., was listed in critical condition after he struck the passenger’s side of a car Sunday afternoon.
Taylor was traveling southbound along A1A, in Flagler Beach, around 12:22 p.m., while Robert Minahan, 80, of Flagler Beach, was traveling northbound on the same road.
Minahan proceeded to turn left, directly into the path of Taylor. The front of Taylor’s Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of Minahan’s Ford 500, according to the report.
Taylor suffered serious injuries and was airlifted via FireFlight to Halifax Hospital, in Daytona.
A1A was closed for more than an hour while authorities investigated the scene. Minahan and his passenger, Joanna Taratino, didn’t sustain any injuries.
Minahan was cited by FHP with violation of right of way/improper left turn, which requires a mandatory court appearance, according to the report.
