Come for the beer, leave with the art

12:04 a.m. -- First Block of Granada Boulevard. Theft. Police were called to Caffeine Bistro and Wine Bar after a piece of artwork was stolen from above the bar. Witnesses told police there were two males sitting at the bar, directly under the stolen artwork, who had asked about it several times. After employees noticed the piece was missing, a security guard checked the surveillance footage. According to the police report, the footage shows one of the suspects taking the artwork off the wall while the other suspect stood up and watched. The suspects left the bar around 10:20 p.m., after paying their tab. The bar gave police a copy of the pair's receipt, which showed one of the suspect’s debit card number, a picture of the artwork and the surveillance footage. The artwork is one of several similar pieces, in the shape of a cross, at the bar.

'I like turtles'

3:20 p.m. -- 700 Block of Atlantic Avenue. Theft. Ormond Beach police officers responded to the location in reference to a shoplifter. A witness said he saw the suspect walking around the store looking suspicious, and alerted another employee. The second employee began watching the suspect on the security camera as she placed a shirt, a three-piece picture frame and a turtle figurine in her purse. When the police arrived, the suspect took the items out of her purse and placed them on a shelf in the souvenir section. The suspect was placed in custody and read her Miranda rights. According to the report, she agreed to answer the officer’s questions and told them, “It was just stupid and I should not have done it.” The suspect told police she was stressed because she recently served her husband with divorce papers. The store plans to press charges.
