In response to severe weather conditions from Hurricane Sandy, Votran bus routes have been altered.
BY THE OBSERVER STAFF
Effective Friday, Oct. 26, a number of Votran bus routes will be redirected to avoid traveling over high-rise bridges throughout Ormond Beach and Volusia County.
Changes will last through Saturday, Oct. 27.
Volusia County Emergency Management issued a warning Thursday for drivers of high-profile vehicles, such as buses, box trucks, RVs, ambulances and fire apparatus, to avoid traveling over high-rise bridges over the weekend. As a result, buses will use the bascule bridges at Main Street and Orange Avenue as alternative routes.
Route changes are listed as follows:
Route 1: Only route serving State Road A1A from Granada Boulevard to Silver Beach Avenue
Route 8: Will use Main Street bridge in both directions
Route 17a/b: Will use Main Street bridge outbound and Orange Avenue bridge inbound. Route 17b will not serve the Dunlawton Avenue / Nova Road area. It will turn around just past Dunlawton Avenue.
Route 18: Inbound from Granada Boulevard and U.S. 1 will go south on U.S. 1 and right on Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard to the transfer plaza.
Route 19: Outbound from the transfer plaza will use Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard to go north on U.S. 1 and left on Granada Boulevard to regular routing.
Route 17: Night service will not serve the Beach Street loop.
