Palm Coast's Hollingsworth Gallery is opening its latest exhibit, "Ten," Sept. 8. The exhibit showcases pieces from 10 regional artists, hand-picked by John J. Graham, co-founder and co-director of the gallery.

"I tried to avoid a theme because we had a theme show last time, and too many themes gets kind of kitsch," Graham said. "I have a lot of respect for the artists in this show. It has more variety, and it's definitely got a sophisticated range of emotions."

Although Graham doesn't always black out the windows of the gallery when he's preparing a new exhibit, he did this time, because he's making some big changes to the gallery's look. He said he's had some people come and try to peek through the windows to see these changes, he said, but it will all be unveiled at 6 p.m. Saturday.

"The paintings in this exhibit go from being very quiet to very busy or subtle to in-your-face," he said. "When you have that kind of tension between paintings, it's fun. I wanted to make the gallery a bit like a rollercoaster, and just to have a sense of movement through the gallery, a rhythm of up and down."

Artists featured include Betty Morris Parker, Jean Banas and John Scherer. The exhibit contains mostly painters, plus two sculptors.

The Hollingsworth Gallery is located at 160 Cypress Point Pkwy Suites 209B and 210B.
