The Matanzas High School swimming teams split the Sept. 11 meet with Mainland, as the girls team won, 196-62, and the boys team lost, 141-94.

The girls 200-yard medley relay team dominated the field, finishing in 2:00.40 — about 27 seconds faster than the second place Matanzas B relay team. The A team comprises Carley Stinchcomb, Kylie Allen, Madison O’Keefe and Emily Petkovsek.

Allen also won the 200-yard free style by about 45 seconds.

On the boys side, Brian Barth won the boys 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 56.57 seconds.

Matanzas volleyball falls to Warner Christian
The Matanzas volleyball team lost to Warner Christian on three straight sets Tuesday, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-23.

Although the loss dropped the Lady Pirates to 0-4 this season, first-year coach Julie Menendez said she is seeing improvement.

“(They were) great games (Tuesday night),” she said. “(We’re) getting stronger and better as a team each set.”
