Before band practice Thursday, Sept. 13, David Lane stood outside his practice space at Eagles Nest Storage and sorted through two boxes. In box one, 100 T-shirts. In box two, 150 koozies; all the with the David Lane Band logo.

This was the merchandise Lane was waiting for to sell at his upcoming CD release party Friday, Sept. 14, at the Golden Lion, before heading to his second tour stop, his hometown of Darien, Ga. for a Sept. 15 show.

Lane has been making music since he was 6 years old, with a couple breaks along the way. But nothing, he says, is bigger than the journey on which he is about to embark.

“I feel like I’ve paid my dues, but I know that I still have a long road ahead of me,” Lane said. “I’m 100% dedicated to this and I’ve sacrificed a lot — I feel like it’s coming, I really do. I feel like I was born to do this.”

Having started recording his CD in 2006, Lane’s album has been a labor of love for six years. His first single, “Go for a Drive,” will release Friday on iTunes. The song has already gotten good response locally, on KIX Country 98.7.

Lane signed with MuSick Recording label, out of Los Angeles, Calif., in October 2011, and has been playing with the same band since early this year. Joining Lane is guitarist Michael Mangaroo, bassist Jamie Markowski and drummer Blayne Archambault.

“My goal is to spread our music with the world,” Lane said. “I want to give people music that means something  I think the radio right now is saturated with stuff that says it just to say it, and I really want to put stuff out there that means something.”

For Lane, his album is about love, loss and hope; three things that have been the center of his life over the past six years.

“(The album) is something that I’ve been writing for a long time,” Lane said.

The single, “Go for a Drive,” was recorded in Hollywood, Calif., with Kenny Aronoff on drums. Aronoff has played drums for big-name artists, including Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert.

“We were very lucky to have him,” Lane said.

The other 11 songs on the album were recorded locally with Joshua Cobb, of Rockbot Records.

The album will be available in stores Oct. 9. For more on the David Lane Band, visit www.davidlanecountry.com.
