A Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was en route to a possible burglary in progress call was T-boned by an 80-year-old man Thursday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Sheriff’s Office deputy Darrell Butler was headed west on Palm Coast Parkway in the outside lane around 6:42 p.m., with his emergency equipment activated.

According to the report, Butler stopped for a red light before proceeding through the intersection.

William Venne, 80, of Palm Coast, was driving his Smart Car, headed south on Belle Terre Parkway. Venne’s car then struck the right side of Butler’s cruiser, the report states.

Venne had a green light, according to the report.

Both Venne and Butler endured injuries, and both were wearing their seatbelts.
