A car chase was brought to an abrupt ending Sunday night in Ormond Beach after one of the vehicle’s front tires was punctured, causing a Palm Coast resident to lose control and overturn it.

Law enforcement officers used a stun gun to subdue the suspect, Eric Miller, 45, of Palm Coast, when he resisted arrest after crashing the stolen silver 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser along the 1400 Block of Oceanshore Boulevard.

The vehicle, which was reported stolen from Palm Coast earlier in the day, was picked up by a deputy’s Lo-Jack receiver while he was traveling on Interstate 95 at Granada Boulevard.

After Miller exited I-95, an officer was able to get a visual, at which point the Volusia County Sheriff's Office Air One Unit was called to the scene, and the officer attempted to pull Miller over.

Once Miller ignored the officer’s emergency sirens and lights, the use of Stop Sticks to puncture the tires was authorized, and the Air One Unit took over command.

The Air One Unit began tracking Miller’s location and relaying the information to law enforcement. Authorities on the ground weren’t authorized to pursue Miller, but deployed Stop Sticks at two locations.

The first use of Stop Sticks was at the intersection of Mason Avenue and Bill France Boulevard in Daytona Beach, where the driver’s side rear tire was punctured.

The second use of Stop Sticks punctured the front passenger tire, causing Miller to lose control of the vehicle and collide with three other vehicles before coming to a stop.

He was transported to Halifax Hospital for medical treatment due to the crash and was later released into police custody.

Miller drove the stolen vehicle along Clyde Morris Boulevard, Bill France Boulevard, Mason Avenue and Granada Boulevard before making his way to Oceanshore Boulevard, where the incident came to an end.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
