Jorge Santiago, of Palm Coast, was honored recently by US Foods after placing first in the 48-foot tractor-trailer category during the company’s sixth-annual National Safety Championship, in San Diego.
Santiago is one of approximately 12,000 US Foods drivers and warehouse selectors nationwide and has worked at the company’s distribution center in Port Orange for eight years.
Santiago squared off against 50 other top 5-axle US Foods drivers who won division competitions around the country. The event is widely recognized as one of the most challenging driving competitions in America.
“We are thrilled to recognize Jorge for his expert driving and dedication to safety," said Tim Beauchamp, chief supply chain officer. "He is truly among the best truck drivers in the industry.”
First-place winners received $2,000. The keynote speaker for the evening was former Pittsburgh Steeler running back and NFL Hall of Famer Franco Harris.
