At the 95th-annual District Convention of the Florida District of Kiwanis International, Flagler Beach resident Allen D. Whetsell was installed as the Governor of Florida District which encompasses the entire state of Florida along with the Provincials Islands and the Grand Cayman Island.
Whetsell is the first governor for the state to ever come from Division 7, which encompasses Flagler and Volusia counties. He has been a Kiwanian for more than 30 years and is the general manager of Craig-Flagler Funeral Home, Memorial Gardens and Crematory.
Also at the convention, Flagler County's Frank Constantino, the current lieutenant governor for Division 7, was honored as the Lieutenant Governor of the Year, and the Division received the award as the Most Improved Division in the Florida District.
Sal Passalaqua, president of the Flagler County Kiwanis Club, also was installed as the District Chair of the Governor’s Project for next year. The projects will be Just 1 Book and a statewide peanut butter and jelly drive.

The Flagler County Kiwanis Club meets 5:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays, at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Kiwanis Club of Flagler/Palm Coast meets 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, at the Taste of Portugal Restaurant.
