Law enforcement has a suspect in custody from a Friday morning bank robbery, after he crashed a stolen car used in the robbery.

Police say Glenn Neal, 24, stole a gray 2000 Kia Sportage in Holly Hill around 11 a.m. Friday and drove it to the Bank of America, at 699 Nova Road, where he entered the bank brandishing a handgun. He then ordered bank customers to the floor and demanded the teller place money in a canvas bag.

The teller complied with Neal’s demands, and then Neal ran out of the bank and fled the scene in the stolen car.

An Ormond Beach Police officer spotted the vehicle in the vicinity of U.S. 1 and Hand Avenue before losing sight of it. He then broadcast its location and direction over the radio.

Law enforcement from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and the Holly Hill Police Department spotted the vehicle, pursued it and deployed stop sticks.

Neal crashed the car after the stop sticks were used and was taken to the hospital as a result of injuries.

Police found the firearm used in the robbery as well as the stolen money in the vehicle.

Charges against Neal are pending.
