A Night on Treasure Island, a fundraiser for the Josh Crews Writing Project, will be 6:30-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, 9505 Oceanshore Blvd.

The Josh Crews Writing Project was created by family and friends after Crews died last year. An avid reader and writer, Crews believed knowledge was power. A memorial scholarship fund was set up through the Flagler County Education Foundation to continue Crews’ legacy of encouraging and empowering young creative writers in Flagler County elementary schools. All proceeds from the event will support this endeavor.

Tickets are $100 per person, or a table of 10 may be purchased for $85 per person. Tickets include dinner, complimentary beer, wine, and  perfectly potent rum punch — a pirate favorite.

Scurvy scallywags, sailors, stowaways and wenches looking to get into character may arrive by boat, sloop or dinghy, thanks to discounted boat slip rentals of $1-per-foot, at the Marineland Marina.

The evening’s entertainment will include a silent auction and several pirate games, including one where guests avoid the contagious “black spot.”

“Treasure Island was one of Josh’s favorite books,” said event organizer Carla Cline. “If you never read it or haven’t recently, this is a perfect excuse to pick up a copy. Knowing the story will also give you an advantage in the puzzle contest we have planned.”

To purchase tickets, stop by Woody’s Bar-B-Q , at 99 Flagler Plaza Drive or visit http://www.flagleredfoundation.org/donate-now?view=donation.
