If you’re among the band of golfers yearning for that first hole in one, the answer awaits.
Go play Cypress Knoll. Play it again, and again, and again.
If you think this suggestion is like watching a drunk chasing a balloon near the edge of a cliff, scan the consistent ace results that have been coming out of this classic golf course for what seems like five or six months. Something good has to be happening there as holes-in-one come spurting out faster than a barrel of beer.
The latest arrived from a 22-degree hybrid swung by Joel Schwalb, the pride of Revere, Mass., a city close to Boston.
Looking on with pride were Bernie Sheridan and Ed Mummert while with the Saturday Morning Sunrise Seniors group. It was Schwalb’s second ace. The first was at Matanzas.
But the good stuff is that Schwalb is special. He gives every ounce of himself consistently to lead this league and other leagues, mostly always at Cypress. In short, he’s the class of Palm Coast, on and off the golf course.
Pine Course golfers can easily challenge the Cypress reputation given here with Fred Hill, the hero. A new Grand Club member after recently arriving from West Virginia, Hill put the hammer down when he won all four proximity prizes in a Monday team event.
If you are serious about helping someone in life, you might choose to play the gorgeous Grand Haven course on Oct. 22. The Navy League of the United States is holding its annual charity tournament then, the 16th year supporting active duty armed force members.
Under the direction of Chairman Lee Figliuolo, proceeds will benefit Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas high schools with Scholarships for Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. And that’s only a fraction of the list that will be helped. The player fee is $110. Call Figliuolo at 447-3640.
In a bit of here and there, did you know the Palm Coast Elks feature a golf tournament at Grand Reserve each Tuesday morning? Jerry Fletcher and Charlie Brown are among those leading the way. A Montreal couple who loved playing the Pine Course while here on vacation two weeks ago. Bob and Draha Pick sent a nice thank you for a few column words. They wrote: “Our friends and family think we are celebrities.”
That’s what is so special about writing these columns. They make nice things happen from the United States to Canada.
