What is a "young" professional? To the Young Professionals Group of Flagler County, which held its April social at Flagler Beachfront Winery, that has always been a tricky question. The group is designed for 21- to 40-year-olds, but the upper age limit hasn't always been enforced. Until now.

The April 3 social kicked off the new membership guidelines and social fees.

“In an effort for the Young Professionals Group to differentiate itself from other chamber and local networking groups, we have decided that addressing the age of our members will benefit the growth of our organization,” said YPG Board Member Meredith Rodriguez.

Membership fees have also changed. Current members of the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates or employees of chamber members who fit membership criteria may join with a $25 one-time application. Non-chamber members can join for $50 annually.

Based on feedback from a variety of interested members who questioned the difference between the YPG socials and chamber Business After Hours in determining the value of membership to the group, the board unanimously passed a motion to also change the fee structure for socials.

From here on out, YPG members will not be charged; potential members, 40 and under, will be charged $10; and professionals over 40, who still wish to attend, will be charged $20. All past YPG board members will be considered alumni and will have all YPG benefits.

“We appreciate all the chamber members who have supported the group so far,” Rodriguez said.

The next YPG Social will be held 6 p.m. May 1, at Houligan's.
