The decision to fill a need for hot yoga in Flagler County was an easy one for business partners Amber Corpion and Heather Doutrick. Writing the business plan, doing the research and taking the plunge to start the business were the hard parts.
But one year later, it doesn't seem so hard for Corpion and Doutrick, who celebrated their one-year anniversary last weekend of opening the Hot Yoga Lounge.
“There's always a fear of the unknown, especially when you hear about the statistics of new businesses and how difficult it is to make it in their first year,” Corpion said.
Like any new business, working out the kinks through trial and error was required, but the first year would not have been possible without the members, Doutrick said.
“Whether it's a workshop, live music events or a celebratory party, our yogis are what make Hot Yoga Lounge possible,” Doutrick said. “We pride ourselves on sharing our genuine love of yoga with our community.”
One way the studio is sharing yoga with the community is through its new free community flow class, which is offered 4 p.m. every Sunday. The free class is also a way to bring yoga to people who can’t afford to be a member.
“We just feel like the community has been really good to us as far as accepting hot yoga, so it’s our way for people that may have had a fear of it to come experience a class for free — just giving back,” Corpion said.
In one year, the studio has expanded to six instructors and 25 classes a week, ranging from yin to hip-hop, and from Pilates and a combination of yoga and Pilates: yogalates.
“Business has been flourishing,” Doutrick said.
So much so that the studio has more plans for expansion. There have been talks of expanding into a larger space and to hopefully offer bar fusion classes, more workshops, prenatal yoga and possibly aerial yoga.
Corpion and Doutrick both said that they hope the love for yoga in Palm Coast continues to spread.
