The best laid plants

3:05 p.m. — First Block of Oak Avenue. Narcotics. The homeowner, an Ocala resident selling an Ormond Beach home, alerted police to an 18-inch cannabis plant growing in the home’s backyard.

There was a ceramic planter pot next to the cannabis plant, but no other cannabis plants were found on the property.

'I run these streets'

9:40 p.m. — 300 Block of South Nova Road. Suspicious person. The defendant tried to ride away on a bicycle, but fell off. He then picked up the bike and tried to “stumble away,” ignoring an Ormond Beach police officer’s command to stop.

When the officer approached the defendant, he reported smelling alcohol on the man’s breath. A warrants check revealed the defendant was on probation for burglary, during which he isn’t allowed to consume alcohol.

The man was arrested and transported to the Ormond Beach Police Department where, according to reports, the man became “very belligerent stated that he ran these streets.”

The defendant slipped the handcuffs in front of him and kicked the inside of the patrol car several times. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The man also said, “I guess you never ran across a guy like me; I run half of Volusia County,” and, “I am west side for life; we will see who ends up in the paper first.”
