The SeaQuills, a writing class with Flagler Schools Adult and Community Education, is thought of not so much as a class, but rather a partnership between the 20 or so adults who attend.
The group gathered Thursday, April 11, at Blue at Topaz, in Flagler Beach, for a celebration of the launch of their seventh poetry and prose anthology “Spindrift 7.” The book, with cover art by Dave Teper, was published by Flagler Beach publisher Tom Keegan, of AGP Printers.
For member Maria Sayers, who has attended for the past five years, it’s a sharing experience — one that has given her confidence in herself and her writing throughout the years. So much confidence, that Sayers recently entered a poetry contest, which she won.
“I never would have had the courage to do that before the class,” she said.
Nancy Skadden, who teaches the program, laughs when she is referred to as the teacher.
“I’m more of a facilitator,” she said. “They teach me. it’s a wonderful class to be a part of.”
The group will read an assortment of poetry and prose 1-3 p.m. April 26, at the Flagler Beach Library.
