Prior to the start of this year’s middle school football season, the Buddy Taylor Middle School team chose to move up a division.
“Our players voted to move up from the midget division to play in the JV division,” coach Darrell Thomas said.
The move meant that instead of playing against younger players, Buddy Taylor would square off against some high school players.
“Our goal was to challenge ourselves and become better players, not to just dominate in a younger division,” Thomas said.
Well, it worked. Buddy Taylor rolled Port Orange, 40-0, last weekend to win the FSYFL JV conference championship.
Running back Kevin Pogue ran for five touchdowns and three extra points. Connor Brady added a TD and an extra point. QB Darrell Thomas Jr. also ran for an extra point.
“I’m very proud of our Team,” Thomas said. “I want to thank my coaches and our parents for all of their support.”
Coaches include Thomas, as well as assistant coaches Colton Thomas, Dalton Thomas, B.J. Austin and Will Prator.
Players include Darrell Thomas Jr., Kevin Pogue, Connor Brady, Evan Haines, Brandon Volden, Tyler Austin, Bryce Phillips, Matthew Moore, Matthew Newsholme, Anthony Dispenza, Jonah Tuom and Noah Hoffman.
