It’s tough when seniors don’t get a win on their senior night. It’s even more difficult when you’re asked to play one of the top teams in the state.

That was the case Friday night for the Lady Bulldogs softball team when the No. 2-ranked Creekside Knights came to town and shut out Flagler Palm Coast, 10-0, in the regular season home finale.

“I would not have done it this way originally,” FPC coach Ed Beckett said after the game, noting that a scheduling conflict forced him to end the season with one of the toughest opponents in all of Florida. “This was an emotional night.”

FPC honored its four seniors before the game: Destiny Kelly, Sam Mittel, Tori Giaccone, and Courtney Williams.

“They have been a very solid group,” Beckett said. “They are all good leaders, and it’s going to be a tough group to replace. The juniors coming up are going to be hard pressed to be as good as leaders as this group.”

Creekside (22-2) scored a run in the top of the first inning and added another six runs in the third to cruise to another win.

FPC (11-12) got two hits from Kelly but couldn’t plate any runs. Williams and Alicia Smith both went 1-for-3.

Creekside outhit FPC, 19-4.

FPC is the No. 3 seed in this week’s District 1-8A tournament and will play Mandarin on Tuesday. The winner will face Sandalwood on Thursday in the district championship. The two teams that make it to the championship will advance to the state playoffs, with the winning team hosting the first round of regionals.
