An Edgewater woman was sentenced Monday to 13 months in prison after using her cleaning service to gain entry to a house in Palm Coast to steal silver and a large amount of cash.
Genevieve Trebus was charged with grand theft and theft from a person 65 years of age or older after she was invited into the victim’s home on February 27, 2012 to clean it along with her co-defendant, Kimberly Hart. The two had been cleaning the victim’s home once a month for more than a year.
On that date in 2012, the victim left the women alone in his home for a short time as he ran some errands. Later, after the women left, the man realized about $3,000 in cash and about 100 pounds worth of silver coins were missing from a plastic container in his bedroom closet.
As the theft was being investigated, Trebus said she knew nothing about it. Then, in an effort to rectify the situation, she returned to the victim’s home on three separate occasions to return some of the stolen items. Trebus brought back approximately $1,600 on her first visit, $500 and five pounds of silver on her second and four pounds of silver on her third.
On March 12, 2012, Trebus met with a Flagler County Sheri’ffs deputy to give more information about the theft. She completed a sworn written statement about the theft and her own involvement in it, as well as the role Hart played in the crime as well.
Hart is scheduled for a pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. on May 1.
After serving her sentence in prison, Trebus will serve 10 years of probation. She was also ordered to pay $14,370 in restitution.
