A bedroom candle started an Ormond Beach residential fire Friday morning.

The candle ignited rags at 12:07 a.m. Friday, at 190 Live Oak Ave, and the fire quickly spread to a mattress and box spring, according to city officials. Flames then extended to a window air conditioning unit and surrounding wall but were contained to the “area of origin.”

There were no injuries reported, although one occupant was checked by medical personnel on scene. Treatment was not administered.

The Ormond Beach Fire Department, along with the Holly Hill Fire, Volusia County Fire Services and EVAC responded to the scene and the fire was “quickly extinguished,” officials say.

Occupants were displaced for the night, and the American Red Cross assisted with lodging.
