+ Bicyclist hits car on Cypress Point Parkway

A bicyclist was transported to the hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a car Thursday.

Antoinette Mary Ulmer was traveling eastbound when she stopped at a red light at the intersection of Cypress Point Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Kevin Jaime Pinero was traveling northbound on a bicycle on the sidewalk on Belle Terre Parkway.

Ulmer’s light turned green and she began to move forward to make a left turn onto Belle Terre Parkway. The bicycle failed to stop before entering the crosswalk and struck the right side of Ulmer’s vehicle, the report says.

Pinero sustained a leg injury was taken to Halifax Hospital.

+ Sheriff appoints citizen advisory board

Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre announced on Monday his new Sheriff’s Advisory Board, which is made of residents who review citizen complaints and concerns on a volunteer basis. The board will be able to propose recommendations to Manfre after reviewing the issues.

“I think this board is important to assure that the agency is keeping in contact with the community we serve,” Manfre said. “Any agency can always do better, and I will be depending on this board to make any recommendations it feels is needed.”

The advisory board members are Dennis Creamer, the sheriff’s commander of volunteer services; Dave Taylor, a retired professional; Jose Jimenez, a retired ITT employee; Linda Vestal, a retired New Jersey police chief; Martin Tucker, a seventh-generation Flagler County resident; Isabella Milanes, a Palm Coast resident; Palm Coast City Commissioner Jason DeLorenzo; Flagler County Commission Chairman
Nate McLaughlin; Lt. Robert Weber, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office; and Sgt. Mike Lutz, a Sheriff’s Office employee.

The Sheriff’s Office will soon launch a link on its website for residents to file compliments or complaints.

+ Arbor Day 2013: ‘Feed a mouth, get a tree, grow a community’

Arbor Day 2013 will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 4 at Central Park in Palm Coast. Admission and parking are free.

Just before the celebration will be the 5K Root Run/Walk, beginning at 8 a.m., and 1 Mile Flutter Foam Fun Run/Walk, at 8:45 a.m. New this year is a foam lane at the Finish Line. Register at http://www.palmcoastgov.com/ArborDay/RunRegistration.

At the main event, themed “Feed a Mouth, Get a Tree, Grow a Community,” attendees can exchange canned food or pet food items for a free three-gallon native hardwood tree. The Native Butterfly Release will be at 11 a.m. at center stage. There will also be entertainment, demonstrations and displays from green vendors.

New fun being added to this year’s Arbor Day celebration are a rock-climbing wall and visits from Rae-Rae the Red Panda from PBS’ Enviropals, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and Cubby from the Daytona Cubs baseball team, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Central Stage.
