Music piracy
2:19 a.m. — 700 Block of Granada Boulevard. Shoplifting. The suspect entered the store and walked through several departments, before placing a Sony MP3 music dock into his basket.
The suspect continued strolling around the store for a “short time,” the manager told police, and then he darted out the door without paying. The item was valued at $106.49.
The doghouse; or, Puppy 'ow'
8:47 p.m. — 1500 Block of Granada Boulevard. Theft. A DeLand man was approached in a parking lot by a man who identified himself as Steven. Steven told the man he was selling a puppy, part mastiff and part pitbull, for $30.
The man agreed to buy the puppy, but he only had a $100 bill. Steven took the bill and said he would return with change, the man told police. After five minutes, Steven didn’t return and the man realized he'd been had. He he didn’t know Steven was going to steal the money, he told police.
Police attempted to contact Steven at an address he gave the man but, lo and behold, he wasn’t there. A woman at the residence said Steven had been staying there off and on, and he was her deceased husband’s nephew. She told police she didn’t know Steven’s last name.
The victim told police he wanted to pursue charges if Steven was located.
