A Palm Coast man hit a woman with his car Wednesday when he fled after she caught him robbing her car. Deputies later found and arrested him for strong armed robbery.
Sandra Laden saw Kenneth William Stancil sitting in her 2013 Lincoln as it was parked on 16th Road E. in Palm Coast. He left her vehicle and got into the driver’s seat of another and began to drive away.
Laden yelled at Stancil and tried to wave him down as he drove away, according to an incident report. As Stancil fled, his car hit her on the right side of her body.
Laden and a witness both notified the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, and dispatch issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for all deputies on road patrol. Soon, a deputy observed the described Ford being driven by Stancil in the area of Jungle Hut Road East and Hammock Dunes Parkway. Stancil turned onto Jungle Hut Road and crossed over North Oceanshore Boulevard, but then turn around when blocked by the gate to a closed community.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the car and apprehended Stancil.
Stancil had several items in the front, right pocket of his jeans: $58 in cash, a black USB charger, an iPad charging cord and a pedometer.
Meanwhile, Laden was on her way to the hospital to be treated from hip and leg pain she suffered after being hit. She first stopped by the scene and identified Stancil as the man she had seen in her vehicle. Laden also identified the items found in Stancil’s pocket as her own. She was then transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Stancil was arrested and booked into the Flagler County Inmate Facility on charges of strong armed robbery, aggravated battery of a person over 65, burglary of an automobile and petit theft. He remained in jail Thursday on $28,000 bond.
