Indian Trails Sports Complex could soon have a brother.
At next Tuesday’s Palm Coast City Council workshop, officials will hear a presentation to enter a public/private partnership with Players Development Academy of Florida Inc., a New Jersey-based soccer club that has developed soccer players since 2000.
The agreement would add five sports fields to the Palm Coast Park Development of Regional Impact, located off U.S. 1, between Palm Coast and Matanzas Woods parkways.
The costs of the fields and ancillary facilities would be paid for by PDA. In addition, PDA would pay for all maintenance at the complex.
The lease term is for 25 years with options for five-year extensions. The lease payment would be $10,000 per year, but the city would waive the annual lease payment if PDA hosts two significant special events per year.
The city will also provide fill dirt needed for construction. The dirt will come from the city’s swale rehabilitation project.
“Our approach is to encourage tournaments and other special events that will bring in visitors from out of town,” City Manager Jim Landon said.
Rich Weber, vice president of programs for FC United, said discussions are taking place, and he's cautiously optimistic.
“This would change the soccer landscape for North Florida and Florida overall, that’s for sure,” Weber said.
The City Council will meet 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at city offices, 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite B-106.
